ARIZONA HAWKS

AUSTRALIAN RULES FOOTBALL CLUB

The Arizona Hawks win Men’s Division III at the 2025 USAFL Western Regional Tournament!

For the first time since 2017, the Arizona Hawks men took a full squad to the USAFL Western Regional Tournament, and the team did not disappoint winning the Division III Championship. The Hawks men first competed against the Denver Bulldogs Reserves providing a chance to avenge their defeat in the 2022 Men’s Division III National Championship game. The men played exceptional footy from start to finish, winning the game with the teams highest final score and highest winning margin in more than a decade (14.12.114 to 0.1.1). This result set up a championship game matchup with a combined team of Portland Steelheads and Wasatch Wargulls.

Portland/Wasatch took advantage of a longer rest break and a favourable breeze to get out to a two goal lead by quarter time. However, the Hawks turned the game in the second quarter with some outstanding passages of team play to reverse the margin and take a two goal lead into half time. The Steelheads/Wargulls pulled back to within 9 points in the fourth quarter before the Hawks steadied, ultimately winning a hard fought game (and the championship) by a score of 8.7.55 to 5.3.33.

The Hawks women were also represented at Western Regionals combining with women from the New York Magpies and Austin Crows to play with the D.C. Eagles. The Hawks women battled hard in matches against teams lead by Minnesota Freeze, Golden Gate Iron Maidens and Denver Bulldogs. The inexperience of the DC Eagles combined squad playing together was evident throughout the day with defeats in all three games.

Next up, the Arizona Hawks men and women will compete in the Stumptown Showdown to be played in Molalla, Oregon, on Saturday, August 16, 2025. The following week the Hawks travel to San Diego, California, to compete in the Rob Dollar Cup on Saturday, August 23, 2025.

Regular season practices are held Wednesday evenings from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM in Mesa, and non-gameday Saturday mornings from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM in Mesa. Occasional Monday evening practices are also held from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM in North Phoenix. Practice times and locations vary so check out our Schedule page for details on all practices and games. New (or returning) men’s and women’s players are always welcome to join us at any practice and no previous footy experience is necessary!
