The Arizona Hawks Australian Football Club was sad to learn today that longtime player, supporter and great friend to many, Rob Dollar has passed away. Rob has been part of the Club for 13 years. He won 2 National Championships for Arizona and on and off the field he was so full of life and laughter that his presence will always be missed. Our thoughts go out to the Dollar family, especially to his Brother David who has always been part of the Hawks family and to all the Hawks players who played with Rob and to all of the Hawks players who grew up with Rob, and to all the Hawks players who went to school with Rob and to everyone in our Club who considered him a brother.
On the field Rob was as passionate as a player could be. He played his heart out every game and he always had a way to yell at you as loud as he could yet still somehow make you laugh. We went through all the AZ Metro Footy Match Reports tonight and in EVERY game Rob Dollar played in he was listed as one of the “Best on Ground.”
From the Match Reports we pulled some of the funnier comments made about Rob during his playing career and have them below. If you know Rob you will laugh at these. Pulling all this together made me laugh amongst the tears and please in your comments below feel free to post a “Rob Dollar” story to make us always remember him.
“Rob Dollar was umpiring his first game and just like when he plays he let everyone know he was the best umpire in the AZAFL if not the whole world”
“Maybe they had all attended a Rob Dollar ‘self-help’ seminar and came out believing they were all the best, whatever the reason they were ready to put up a fight”
“The team started to combine well and Rob “give me your girlfriends phone number” Dollar kept pushing the ball upfront”
“Rob “we can’t stop looking at your girlfriend during the game while you were playing” Dollar was getting the ball a lot and scored a goal himself as well as setting up his team mates.”
“The Devils knew they had to come out strong and Dollar led by example and cut through the Kingsnakes team like a hot knife through butter.”
“In the second quarter the Devils started to come alive with Rob “Evil Kenevil” Dollar showing that the Terrell Owens workout his was doing does work and his speedy play allowed him to connect with his teammates and this led to Robert Luto scoring the first goal of the match.”
“Rob “Call me to buy houses” Dollar switched positions to solidify the lineup and solidify it he did.”
The photos below show Rob over the past 13 years so please look at these and remember him for all his contributions on the field and more importantly for the positive impact he had on the lives of all those around him.
Below is a link for people to donate money to support the Dollar family with funeral expenses and with the loss of our team mate Rob Dollar who passed away this past Sunday. Please support our fellow Hawk with anything you can donate. When you donate please make the “cents ” $0.19 to remember the number that Rob liked to wear on his footy jersey. (i.e. donate $50.19)
