About the Arizona Hawks

The men and women of the Arizona Hawks Australian Rules Football Club compete in the United States Australian Football League (USAFL) with almost 50 other clubs from across the USA and Canada.  Playing Australian Rules Football (Aussie Rules) provides our men and women the opportunity to learn a unique, fast-paced, exciting sport that utilizes a wide range of skills, builds confidence and character, and promotes personal well-being and fitness while also teaching the value of teamwork, camaraderie and preparation in achieving success.

Established in 1999, the Arizona Hawks has a 25+ year legacy of development and participation in Aussie Rules in Arizona and the United States. Our efforts have culminated in multiple USAFL National Championships, including most recently in 2025 winning Women’s Division 2 and in 2021 winning Men’s Division 3. The men have also finished as runners-up in the USAFL Men’s Division 3 National Championship in 2022 and 2025, with three of our players receiving USAFL awards as best and fairest players in both of those seasons.

In 2025, the Arizona Hawks hosted the USAFL Nationals Tournament for the first time in Arizona.  The culmination of the USAFL 2025 season occurred at Kino Sports Park in Tucson. The event was attended by well over one thousand players and fans representing 37 clubs from across the USA and Canada.  The success of the 2025 event and the exceptional quality of the venue at Kino Sports Park South has built expectations that the USAFL National Championships will return to Arizona in the coming years. As Arizona emerges as a hub for U.S. footy, the Arizona Hawks are well poised for continued success in both the men’s and women’s games.

Locally, our players compete in the Desert Footy Challenge dividing the Arizona Hawks into two opposing teams: the Cactus Pricks and the Haboobs. Competing over five rounds throughout the USAFL season, the Desert Footy Challenge helps us to tune up ahead of our USAFL matches while also letting new players experience the pace and fun of footy. The Desert Footy Challenge culminates in early October with a Series Final two weeks before the USAFL Nationals.

Off the field, we have over 1,200 active supporters following the club through various social media.  Many of our supporters cheer on the team at home games against visiting teams or at the Desert Footy Challenge matches. The Arizona Hawks also actively participate in the Australians and New Zealanders of Arizona Social Club events including their Australia Day celebrations in late January and ANZAC Day remembrance in late April.

The Arizona Hawks marquee social event each year is our AFL Grand Final Party held on the last Friday evening in September. The Arizona Hawks AFL Grand Final Party is also our primary fundraising event of the year. In 2025, the event brought together over 150 footy fans of all ages to watch a live broadcast of Australian Rules Football’s biggest event of the year, and to provide vital support to the Arizona Hawks.

The Arizona Hawks are always welcoming new players to the game of Aussie Rules, or to provide the opportunity for former players to get back into the game! If you are in Arizona, and you have ever thought about giving Aussie Rules footy a go, please come and join us! Aussie Rules footy is arguably the greatest team sport with opportunities for men’s and women’s players, umpires, club officials, sponsors and supporters to get involved at any level!
